Our story

It all started…

in 1983 when Louise began trading in a small store on Dam Street in Lichfield. The shop, almost in the shadow of the city’s iconic cathedral, began selling gifts but she soon spotted a gap in a very different market.

Already in possession of a fine arts degree, Louise was passionate about clothing created from natural fibres and sustainable resources. She felt Lichfield lacked somewhere for people who wanted something a little different without sacrificing on quality.

Affordable and individual

Sticking to a policy of affordable individuality, she moved into a shop on the other side of Dam St, and turned it into an Aladdin’s cave for customers looking for something innovative.

She also began working with suppliers from all over the world who shared her beliefs in fair trade and ecologically friendly supply chains.

Today Dame Oliver’s is a magnet for people who want something a little bit different. The clothing and accessories are as eye-catching and high quality as ever, while the prices remain resolutely down-to-earth.

The shop caters for larger sizes as well, covering sizes 6 - 26.

Hats and fascinators

In the last fifteen years Louise has also built up a thriving millinery business, stocking hats, cocktail hats, fascinators and bags of all shapes, sizes, styles and colours. We also offer a bespoke service - matching colour and style to any outfit.

An extensive range of costume jewellery and silver jewellery adorns the walls and shelves, alongside a vast array of scarves and stoles.

Dame Oliver's is a fair trade shop in a fair trade city, and we strive to source goods that meet our own ethical, quality, and environmental standards.

We are constantly on the lookout for something different – and new stock arrives weekly throughout the year.
